SMOKE BATH: TAKE A DEEP BREATH

Smoke Bath may sound like the name of some obscure indie band but it’s a more noble idea that is hidden behind this title. SMOKE BATH is an artistic project presenting an amazing online collection of photographs and artwork loosely based on the theme of nature, and an original concept curated by mister Peter Sutherland himself.
Smoke Bath showcases an impressive set of artists, including Patrick O’Dell, Skye Parrott or Angela Boatwright, but above all aims to raise money for Freshair.org, a not-for-profit agency that provides free summer holiday for NYC kids from low-income communities.
In times like these where art seems doomed to repeat the same trendy clichés and where internet is just a speedway to  notoriety, we think SMOKE BATH, paradoxically, is a nice wave of fresh air (indeed).

Smoke Bath sonne peut-être comme le nom d’un quelconque groupe obscur mais c’est en fait une idée bien plus noble qui se cache derrière ce titre. SMOKE BATH est un projet artistique révélant une très belle collection online d’art et de photos basée autour du thème de la nature, et un concept créé et développé par Peter Sutherland lui-même.
Un impressionnant nombre d’artistes (parmi lesquels on retrouve entre autres Patrick O’Dell, Skye Parrott ou Angela Boatwright) présente un travail inspiré par la vie au grand air. Ceci dans le but de rassembler des fonds pour Freshair.org, une agence à but non lucratif offrant des vacances d’été gratuites aux enfants des communautés les plus démunies de New York.
En ces temps où l’art semble tourner sur lui-même dans une répétition de clichés trendy et alors qu’Internet n’est plus qu’une autoroute vers une notoriété rapide, SMOKE BATH nous fait paradoxalement prendre un grand bol d’air frais.

“For the last few years I’ve been thinking of art outside of the context of galleries, sales and museums. I’ve wondered about the power of art and its potential to do something positive. At it’s core, this project is a test, and I hope the result will be an (online) exhibition that people all over the world can enjoy while raising some money for a very good cause in the process. I hope the images collected here inspire people to think about the beauty of the wilderness, and perhaps inspire them to donate to freshair.org. Visiting natural and wilderness areas can be a very peaceful and mind-expanding experience. Hopefully this project helps kids to discover the outdoors.”
