Wagner, l’autre.

Je suis jeune, franco-américain, gentil et je fais de la musique pour que des gens dansent et se chopent.

Cela a le mérite d’être clair et de poser les choses. Et en plus ca marche.
Yan Wagner a commencé à vouloir créer de la musique après avoir vu les Chemical Brothers au Bataclan il y a quelques années. Il a passé un an à Brooklyn et s’est imprégné de l’air ambiant où l’on compte les excellents groupes par grappes depuis et pour un bon bout de temps. Il prépare une thèse sur les night clubs. Quand j’ai rencontré ce type j’ai eu un peu de mal à y croire, c’est plutôt farfelu, mais c’est vrai.
En entendant sa voix on se rend aussi compte qu’il n’y ajoute que très peu d’effets en live.
Une voix à la fois puissante et nonchalante, impressionnante. Comme sa musique.
Wagner avance les noms de Beach House, Broadcast, Desire. Assez difficile de faire plus classe, j’avoue.
Tout cela suffirait déjà à en faire un garçon sympathique au premier abord. Mais ce serait oublier ses mélodies, ce son extrêmement moderne, qui pour le coup nous le rendent attachant.
Une sorte de new wave qui se réinvente à chaque chanson, joyeuse et enjouée.
On mettrait bien ses morceaux dans un joli panier avec des disques du regretté Jacno et des plus proches Washed Out.
On ne manquera pas de vous signaler dès qu’une date de sortie de son maxi s’annoncera.
Et en attendant, il ouvrira la soirée Wow #2, le 1er juin au Point Ephémère.

Now that is a clear and honest start. And it works.
Yan Wagner’s desire to do music started after a Chemical Brother’s concert at the Bataclan in Paris a few years ago. He spent a year in Brooklyn soaking up its atmosphere that is (and will be) filled with loads of excellent bands. He is writing a thesis on night clubs. When I met him, I found this to be a little far fetched, but it’s all true.
And hearing his voice, one realizes that he uses only very little effects on stage. An impressive voice, powerful yet laid back. Just like his music.
Wagner quotes such bands as Beach House, Broadcast, or Desire. Pretty cool, I have to admit.
All this would be enough to like this young man at first glance. But considering his melodies and his extremely modern sound makes him very lovable indeed.
A kind of constant reinvention of new wave, catchy and joyful.
It would be nice to bunch up his records with the late Jacno or, closer to home, Washed Out.
We will definitely keep you posted on his EP’s possible release.
Until then, he will be the opening for the Wow #2 party, on the 1st of June at the Point Ephémère in Paris.
