Depuis quelques temps, notre langue se plaît à égrener inlassablement certaines lettres de l’alphabet, particulièrement celles d’un chapelet de perles issues de San Francisco.
The Morning Benders prolonge cette tendance avec son deuxième album Big Echo.
Du magnifique Excuses emportée jusqu’au climax spectorien par un enregistrement alternatif réalisé par Yours Truly, aux larmes enroulées sur Stitches, The Morning Benders réalise un album pop entre autoroute mainstream et moment rares.

- The Morning Benders :
We are a band that plays music. All 4 of us are California kids, we started the band in San Francisco. We just moved to Brooklyn, New York. Not sure how long we will stay here, but we love it so far!
The Morning Benders est un groupe qui joue de la musique. Nous venons tous les quatre de Californie et avons commencé le groupe à San Francisco. Nous venons juste de déménager à Brooklyn, NY. Nous ne savons pas jusque quand nous resterons ici mais pour le moment, on adore !

- Big Echo :
We wanted to make an album that had everything. Joyous songs and melancholy songs. Immediate songs, and growers. Analog and digital sounds. Dark and light, dense and sparse textures. We also wanted an album that existed in a special world and space. A place that you can visit for 40 minutes, and hopefully be affected by in some way.
We just listen to a ton of different kinds of music, and we thought it would be interesting to throw them all into the mix. The idea for Big Echo, and part of where the title of the album comes from, is the concept of throwing all these different kinds of sounds and styles and textures into a huge chamber together, and hearing what they sound like playing and bouncing off each other.
Nous voulions faire un album qui aurait tout ; des chansons joyeuses et d’autres mélancoliques.
Des chansons « immédiates » et d’autres qui grandissent au fur et à mesure. Des sons analogues et digitaux. Des textures sombres et lumineuses, denses et clairsemées. Nous voulions aussi un album qui existerait dans un monde et un espace particuliers. Un endroit que tu puisses visiter en 40 minutes et en ressortir touché d’une certaine manière.
Nous écoutons beaucoup de choses différentes et nous pensions qu’il serait intéressant d’en faire un grand mélange. Le concept derrière Big Echo (et c’est en partie de là que vient le titre de l’album) était de mixer tous ces sons, ces styles, ces textures ensemble et d’ensuite les écouter jouer et rebondir les uns sur les autres.

Chris brought a lot of clarity to the project. When we came to him we had a bunch of reels of tape full with sound, that were pretty chaotic and indeterminate at times. He was a huge help distilling those sessions, and helping us be clear with what we wanted to say. It was really a pleasure working with him, he is an incredible musician and person.
Chris a énormément clarifié ce projet. Quand nous avons commencé à travailler ensemble, nous avions juste quelques bandes son assez chaotiques et indéterminées. Il nous a énormément aidé à scinder ces sessions musicales ainsi qu’à clarifier ce que nous souhaitions exprimer. C’était un plaisir de travailler avec lui car c’est un musicien et une personne incroyable.

- You did this recording of the song “Excuses” with Yours Truly with a lot of your friends, how does this kind of experience influence your songwriting ? Vous avez enregistré cette version de la chanson « Excuses » avec Yours Truly et beaucoup de vos amis. En quoi ce type d’expérience influence t-il votre écriture ?
This performance was a pretty singular thing. I had the idea to do it, and I’m just happy we were able to get all our friends together on one day and make it happen. When I watched the video for the first time I was quite moved by how well they captured the mood and atmosphere of that day. It was a really great time. We can’t do anything like this when we play the song live, so I guess we are going to have find different ways to do it…
Cet enregistrement était assez particulier. J’avais cette idée en tête et je suis juste très heureux que nous ayons pu réunir tous nos amis ensemble pendant une journée afin de pouvoir la réaliser. Quand j’ai vu la vidéo pour la première fois, j’étais assez ému de voir à quel point l’atmosphère et l’esprit de cette journée ont été très bien capturés. C’était génial. On ne peut vraiment pas réaliser quelque chose comme ça lorsque nous nous produisons en live donc je suppose qu’il va nous falloir trouver une autre manière de faire…

-  A few words about love / Quelques mots sur l’amour ?
Just a few? Love is so big! The song Excuses is about love; trying to come to terms with all different kinds of love. How can a child feel love and an adult? Is it the same thing? I believe it’s the same thing, but it’s quite interesting to think about.
Juste quelques uns ? L’amour est tellement vaste ! Le titre Excuses parle d’amour  et de toutes les différentes manières de l’éprouver. Comment un enfant et un adulte ressentent –ils l’amour ? Est-ce la même chose ? Je pense que oui mais il est assez intéressant d’y réfléchir.

- What’s coming up next for The Morning Benders ? Qu’est-ce qui se profile pour The Morning Benders ?
The album is out now. I can’t tell you how excited I am for that. We feel like we have a lot of music to give this world, and we just want to keep moving! Hopefully we’ll get to play in France later this year, that is definitely on our list of things to do.
L’album vient de sortir. Je ne peux vous expliquer à quel point je suis excité. Nous avons l’impression d’avoir tellement de musique à offrir et nous voulons juste continuer à évoluer ! Avec un peu de chance, nous jouerons bientôt en France plus tard cette année, ce qui est définitivement sur notre liste de choses à faire.
